about

“It is not by any means the departure of the sun that causes night. It is the peculiar nature of certain stars to produce darkness, and it is so gross that unless the moon interfered, nothing whatsoever would be visible”

"That which smokes and evaporates over the fire is mercury, that which flames and is burnt is sulphur, and all ash is salt"
- Paracelsus

Saturn City Blues is a collection of mostly instrumental finger picking guitar pieces, drawing inspiration from the nocturnal reveries of water, wind, earth and fire, as means of enchantment & ensoulment.

Written primarily with three guitars - an antique Spanish classical guitar, Portuguese guitar, and a cheap nylon string guitar, the album features Ada with violin on 'In the Blue City' and 'Riverbed'. 'Quo Vadis' was written by sampling recordings of Stijn on tenor sax. Sasha joined with the Bansuri Indian flute on 'Vita Beata' and 'In the Blue City'. Daniel brought the honky tonk on track 7. The album also features a 12 string acoustic, a lap harp, and an electric lap steel guitar. Final artwork was made by Lindsay & myself, with guidance from Vanja.

The album was recorded and mastered by Dennis Mulder at his studio in Amsterdam, with a variety of microphones, the main two being a Neumann M49 from 1958 and a Neumann U67. Other mics used include Sennheiser MD 421 and AKG C414.

Thanks to everyone in Amsterdam and beyond who support this humble envisioning of folk roots music.
